The Best Of My Mobile Adventures 2008

It’s been some year. I’ve migrated between blogging platforms and had three different mobile blogging devices. I’ve been to beaches, festivals, theme parks and foreign ports of call. I’ve strengthened and fortified existing friendships and forged new ones. I’m a founding member of a crawl, for cryin’ out loud! :) Yes, it’s certainly been some year.

SiteMeter logo

I completed an entire year of blogging in mid-October but waited until the end of the calendar year to do a “best of” post. The way I figured out what my “best of” was is this – I took a look at my SiteMeter statistics, not for how many times the page was viewed, but how many times it was viewed whereby the referer was a search engine. So, anyone who visits because I posted a link to Trip Advisor or The Dis or Wordless Wednesday – I love you dearly, but this is a measure of whether or not my blog is pulling unsolicited traffic. And guess what? It is!

Here, therefore, are my Top 12 Posts of 2008. They are pretty evenly split between Disney-related and SW Florida-related, with a couple of totally un-related thrown in for good measure.

12. Cyber Monday – SHOPPING!

Cyber Monday is the Monday right after Thanksgiving, and it’s supposed to be the internet version of Black Friday. Get online, everyone, and stimulate that economy! It’s sort of like Grandparent’s Day or Secretary’s Day. We love grandparents and secretaries, but let’s face facts – Hallmark made up those holidays thereby expanding the gifting industry a bit. Anyhow, on Cyber Monday, I debuted some of the items on my own Amazon Wish List. I’m actually surprised that the post did as well as it did, considering it has not been out there for very long. However, it appeared on just the right day, and I got hits from a number of search engines besides Google.

11. More Disney Characters in RED

This was a Ruby Tuesday post that I did as a follow up to #03. on this list. It did well enough to score in the Top 12, but still miles behind the original in terms of views. I think people liked this one because it starts off with Pooh :)

10. Red Stuff from Fort Myers Beach, Florida

Another Ruby Tuesday post. This time, a different part of Florida is featured. I’d picked up my friend Kim aka Saniholic aka Angel Wings from the airport, and before making the perilous crossing over to Sanibel, we stopped for some fresh shrimp over near the San Carlos Blvd. bridge in Fort Myers.

IMG_6768-Disney-Minnie-Mouse-Magic-Kingdom-Halloween 09. EPCOT Lights of Winter (by special request)

Back to Disney – I’d been conversing with some folks on The Dis about the holiday display at EPCOT, and posted these photos of the Lights of Winter especially for them.

08. How Disney’s Magic Kingdom Decorates For Halloween

Alternative title: “Halloween Spits Up All Over The Magic Kingdom” :) No, seriously – Disney really does it right for Halloween, and I especially love the character statues that are set up in the hub before the castle. Well done, Disney!

07. Yesterday’s shelling haul from the Lighthouse Beach, Sanibel Island

This post chronicles the results of a late-ish August visit to the beach after a storm. Found tons of paper figs and other smelly carnage at the Lighthouse Beach on Sanibel Island.

IMG_6189_Sanibel_Shells_09122008 06. Plunder from the 2:00 AM sea shell raid

This was not really one of those middle of the night “booty calls” from Tootie and Gary. We actually arranged this one ahead of time, after figuring out what time the tide would be going out. They’d been to Blind Pass (between Sanibel and Captiva) the night before and there was a huge shell pile there, so we figured the high seas would spit more up onto the shores during high tide that night – and we were right!

05. Santa in the Sky! at the Tween Waters Inn, Captiva, Florida

Taken on Thanksgiving, this is another post that one would think has not been out there long enough to do well. However, I picked up a lot of hits on Christmas Eve – people were googling around to find out what time Santa could be seen in the sky and they kept ending up on this page :)

Blogher logo 04. Holy cow, I was quoted in an article on BlogHer!

I ran around to every place I post, including Twitter, hollering “OMG Blogher just quoted me – w00t” I was SO excited! 😀 However, this is not THAT traffic – it’s search engine-referred, which means people google around for Blogher a lot. The best part was when the author who quoted me stopped by and left a very gracious comment. w00t!

03. Disney’s Ladies in RED

This is the little post that could – it just keeps on generating traffic. Who knew that so many people would be interested in Disney ladies who wear red? I also get a lot of traffic from Google Images searches, people looking for Disney characters with red hair. Who knew?

02. Sea Shells – Labor Day Gifts From Gustav

The URL was posted to Trip Advisor, which generated a ton of interest – but I’m only counting traffic from search engines in this “best of” synopsis. It’s amazing how many people hit this post after googling for information about Gustav’s effect on the beaches and the tides and such.

01. 7 Things To Do In Walt Disney World On Halloween (except THAT!)

Ah, the number one post of 2008 – and all because Chez Bro could not get tickets to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party! This is one of the few times I’ve attempted to do an instructional post, and it seems to have been really well received. People are always doing a search for stuff to do at Disney World – I’m STILL getting hits on this one, long after Halloween!

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

So there we have it – the top 12 posts, the Best of My Mobile Adventures 2008. My wish for all who read this is for a healthy, prosperous and happy 2009.

Lamp Post Critters at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

(a Camera Critters post)

IMG_6915-DAK-lamp-post-spider-webSpiders! *shudder*
At Disney’s Animal Kingdom, the infrastructure – buildings, bridges, light fixtures, etc. – are covered with folk-art styled critters. Carved, painted, bright and whimsical, some of these cuties can be found on the lamp posts sprinkled throughout the park. Here’s a spider weaving a web on a lamp; click the photo and you’ll see evidence of the presence of this faux arachnid’s real-life brethren.

IMG_6938-DAK-lamp-post-bunniesThe Prey Prays
I found these bunnies in the quiet patio area out back of the Flame Tree BBQ counter service place. I like this area because of the spectacular view of Expedition Everest; one can sit there with a cappucino and become mesmerized watching the cars slowly ascend into the darkness, only to emerge from the other side, careening around with screaming cargo. Anyhow, you might have noticed that these bunnies are in a sort of a praying posture, and they appear to be a bit bug-eyed. Of what are they a-feared, you ask? Well…

IMG_6937-DAK-lamp-post-owlEEEK!
Well, no wonder – there’s an owl soaring above that’s got the bunnies assuming positions of supplication. “Please, don’t swoop down and eat us!” they seem to plead… actually, that owl doesn’t look all that scary to me. In fact, he sort of reminds me of Van Halen’s logo. C’mon, you see it too, don’t you? That’s not scary! Well, not unless they’re thinking of getting back with David Lee Roth AGAIN. In which case, my advice is to “run, little bunnies – FLEE! Flee for your lives!” 😉

IMG_6917-DAK-lamp-post-turtle-snail“I’m singin’ in the rain, just singin’ in the rain…”
I love this one – the turtle assumes the Gene Kelly position and I fully expect him to break into song at any given moment. And the sky! The sky is just that amazing Florida blue sky that I’ve grown to revere.

I’m sure there are lots more whimsical lamp posts in Walt Disney World. This is just a small sampling of them. I hope you’ve enjoyed them!

UPDATE! My Christmas Wish List

It’s not too late – you can still order me a Christmas present! 😀 You’ll have to select express shipping if you want me to have it by Christmas, though…

Last time we talked about Amazon Wish Lists, it was “Cyber Monday”, the virtual equivalent of “Black Friday”, whereby everyone is supposed to go berserk with their credit cards, thus doing their part as Americans and patriots to stimulate the economy. Let it not be said that I don’t pull my weight for Uncle Sam! I have scrubbed my Amazon Wish List until it shines like the top of the Chrysler Building [ /Miss Hannigan]

(have you ever seen the top of the Chrysler Building? I have! The company I work for used to have offices in Grand Central Towers in NYC. It was fun to look out the window and see the cars and gargoyle ornaments sticking out of the top of the building, glinting and gleaming and, well, SHINING in the sun)

Enough foolishiness – on with the list!

Stuff Still On My Amazon Wish List

Photo/Negative/Slide Scanner
I have a boatload of photos from my former life upon the wicked stage, plus slides of me at age 22 starring as Julie Jordan in Rogers and Hammerstein’s Carousel. I would love to scan them and share them online. I think this gadget from Canon can help! There are other gadgets out there that only do either one or the other (photos or slides/negatives) but not both, like this one does. A little pricey, not surprised it is still on the list.

Extra Cell Phone Battery
Want to hear something funny? Someone selected the fancy charger that can charge both the phone AND an extra battery at the same time – but didn’t buy the extra battery! So I still need one of these for my Nokia E71 mobile device. I find that using the device for mobile photo blogging can really drain the battery. I do carry a battery charger (it’s a device filled with AA batteries, and the juice is transferred to the phone) but that takes a while, and meanwhile photo ops are passing you by. Having an extra battery will be much better!

Harry Potter, Years 1-5 Limited Edition “box set”
Yep, the Harry Potter box set – or, in this case, steamer trunk set – still on the list. Only, I’ve been told that the HD version won’t work with my DVD player, so I’ve replaced it with this “regular” version. I do still have somewhat of a nagging guilt-feeling about this one. You KNOW that when the next film comes out on DVD, they will think of some other, clever way to package them, and I’ll have to have that one, too. I’m such a brat, aren’t I? 😉

Pixar’s WALL-E on DVD
I am hoping to add this DVD of Disney-Pixar’s WALL-E to my collection and have a movie night real soon! Never saw it in the movie theater. That’s pretty typical for me. I sometimes wonder if I went to the movies more often, would my DVD collection be quite so large? I’m not sure… probably, yes, it would be exactly as large as it is now.

Stuff People Bought For Me Already

I think this is what happens when much-doted-upon nieces grow up and have their own money…. :)

Nokia Sync and Charge
This is the cool charger for my Nokia E-71 mobile device. I can charge both the phone an extra battery in it at the same time. Additionally, it acts as a cradle for synchronizing with whatever desktop software is appropriate. I’m really excited that someone picked this off the list for me – I believe that one should take the time and trouble to find out what the recipient really WANTS, and clearly someone took the trouble in this case. w00t!

Screen Protectors and A Skin!
More accessories for my Nokia E-71. One thing I really miss about the Crackberry is that there are accessories, including a rubberized easy-to-grip skin, freely available in Best Buy and the like. Nokia, not so much, so I’m happy to see that this was selected from the list. As for the screen protectors, the ones that I have now are generic cut-to-fit. I’ve made mistakes and wasted sheets of this stuff on more than one occasion, so it will be nice to have something that is made to order.

OMG, NFW, It’s DONNY OSMOND! *faints*
Do you know how LONG this has been on my list? Yeah, I know, Donny Osmond – how 70s of me. So, sue me! :) This is the album with Soldier of Love on it. That’s the song that was on the radio for a while and nobody knew who it was. Mr. Osmond wanted to prove that if he released a single under his own name, DJs would ignore it and hate it sound unheard, but if it was anonymous, it would get played and be liked. It was, and it still is! For a long time, this CD was not available. You can see that the album art isn’t available at all, although if you view it on Amazon’s site, miraculously a photo of Donny is there. I guess the person who ordered it for me hit the Wish List at just the right moment, because I didn’t even know that it HAD become available! Double w00t!

And last but not least… a little feminist theology
Did you know that “sophia” is Greek for “wisdom”? And “philo” is one of the Greek words for “love”. So “philosophy” is “the love of wisdom”. Little known but fun facts about Tink *~*~* – I am ever the seeker, and I don’t believe that God is male. She’s probably really pissed off that people believe that of Her. 😉 Seriously, if you ask me, “Is God male, or is God female?”, I will reply, “Both and neither”. God is. That’s all. None of that stops me, however, from searching for the feminine face of God (yes, I read that book, too). A lot of my library is dedicated to God and religion and trying to understand how patriarchy, misogyny and subjugation could possibly have happened in this best of all possible worlds…. I’m still trying to figure it out, but if you want to see the basis of my current theory, you need to read my Valentine’s Day Essay

OK, that’s the Wish List report. I’ve had some fun on Amazon this year, trying to figure out “Gee, if I click one of my OWN links, do I still get a whopping (and thus far, theoretical) three cents?” I’ve also sharpened my paltry HTML skills trying to get the rectangles placed where I want them in relation to the text. Finally, I’m starting to get REALLY excited about Christmas, now that I know that there will be a few things under the tree for me that I REALLY wanted!

So….. what’s on YOUR wish list? Don’t be shy! Leave a comment and let us all know your heart’s desire!

RED Stuff at Christmas Time in Disney’s EPCOT
(a Ruby Tuesday post)

click photos to see them a bit larger in Flickr

I’m sort of grumpy because I was supposed to spend a 4-day weekend in Orlando and should be about driving home by now, but an injured foot precluded the idea of tramping around the parks. And so, I console myself this Ruby Tuesday by looking at photos of Christmas past in EPCOT.

IMG_3611 You may recall that I’ve recently published photos of the Lights of Winter at EPCOT. Today I’ve got just a few scenes from around the World Showcase.

Here we have Father Christmas. I found him telling stories to children of all ages in “France”. I find him kind of attractive, in a Richard Gere sort of way 😉 In fact, the day this photo was taken, I found either Santa or a Santa equivalent telling stories in nearly every country – even Morocco!

IMG_3641

Here we are in “Germany”. There’s something about this beam-and-batten, Tudorish architecture that is eminently suitable for Christmas decorations.

But wait – there’s more! This isn’t even the best part of Christmas in “Germany”…

IMG_3640

The best thing about “Germany” is the model trains, and at Christmas time, this little Bavarian Alps village is all done up for Christmas. There are tiny, decorated pine trees and wreaths everywhere. Here is the village square; the church and other buildings are all festooned with garland, and even the light post is decorated. But wait – there’s even MORE!

IMG_3638It’s the be-ribboned train station, looking just as festive as the town square. OH! What’s that on the roof? Could it be…. SANTA? I think it just might be! But what’s he doing landing on the roof of the train station? Perhaps someone lives there, in the apartment upstairs from the waiting room. Yes, that must be it!

IMG_3667-EPCOT-Holidays-Around-World
In World Showcase Plaza, right at the end of the promenade, there’s a giant Christmas tree with lights blazing, and giant presents set underneath it. Here’s a giant tag on one of the giant presents. I love the use of the candle’s halo for the “o” in EPCOT.

I feel a little better now that I’ve reviewed the pictures of what I missed this weekend. There’s always next year to spend a little of the holiday time in Walt Disney World. Until then, I can plan and dream!

Flora, Fauna, MAGIC! revisited

(a Camera Critters post)

Was reliving some old trip reports to Disney, and came across this Photo Story that I call “Flora, Fauna, MAGIC!”. It’s 4 minutes, 38 seconds, set to music, mostly animals found around Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. It’s a Windows Media Player file.

Enjoy!

Blogless Thursday: Memes I Owe

Blogless Thursday: Memes I Owe

Blogless_Logo_smYou might think that I have forgotten my vow not to blog on Thursdays. Well, I have not forgotten. I am writing this on a TUESDAY and setting it up to publish itself on a Thursday. Therefore, I am not blogging. My blog is, in fact, blogging for me. In a court of law, the most I could be convicted of is conspiracy to blog, or perhaps pre-meditated blogging. But not actual blogging.

Anyhow – I owe people memes. I got tagged a bunch in the past month or so, and never made good. So I’m-a-makin’ good now! I used the feature in the dashboard of my blog that shows me who has linked to me in order to find all the blogs of all the people who tagged me. If you have tagged me and I didn’t respond or list it here, please bring it to my attention!

Flickr Six Of Six
To friendshipLast in, first out – it’s my pal banannie The idea is to go to page 6 of your Flickr photostream and select the 6th photo to post on your blog. So that’s what I’ve done, and what I found there was this photo that I mobile photo blogged a couple of weeks ago from Biddle’s Bucket on Sanibel Island while I was there with my friends doing the Sanibel Bar Crawl. The caption is “To Friends”. Ain’t that the truth!

I don’t think I actually know six people who use Flickr that I could tag on their blog. I think I know two aside from the person who tagged me. So here’s to you, Elaine – tag, you’re it! And you too, Gayle – tag, you’re it!

Six Random Things About Myself
Up next, we’ve got a two-fer. Both Debbie and Robin tagged me with this one

The Rules:
1. Link to the person who tagged you – see above, it was Debbie and Robin
2.Post the rules on your blog – this is what you are now reading
3. List 6 random things about yourself.
4. Tag 6 people at the end of your post.
5. Let each person know they have been tagged and leave a comment on their blog

SIX Random Things About Myself
ONE. I am currently wearing a gold fishie necklace that was given to me by Niece No. 5
TWO. I call the bathroom in my master suite “The Palace” because it is so freakin’ huge
THREE. I miss crunching the leaves while walking up to my voice teacher’s house every autumn – she had the best leaves!
FOUR. Can’t wait to see The Biggest Loser tonight!
FIVE. I wish I had started studying earlier for this exam I’m taking on Saturday morning in Orlando. I keep doing practice tests each night, and I’m getting a little better each time, but still not where I want to be…
SIX. I’m going to violate the rules of this meme and NOT tag anyone. It was hard for me to come up with “six random things” and I have read that on other people’s blogs too, so I’d rather not torture them!

Kreativ Blogger
Kreativ Blogger AwardI got tagged with this one by Gayle. It’s not just a meme, it’s also an award called Kreativ Blogger. It even has it’s own logo! For this one, I have to name –

SIX Things That Make Me Happy
ONE. Being able to enjoy the sunshine and warmth of Florida year-round makes me happy.
TWO. Having time for a life makes me happy.
THREE. I’m an information junkie, so the internet makes me happy.
FOUR. Dove miniatures make me happy
FIVE. Seeing my family and friends makes me happy, especially if they come to visit me here!
SIX. Music makes me ecstatically happy.

Wow that one was MUCH easier than “random things”! And now, I have to tag six people.

Tootie at Sanibel Toot’s Lazy Days , Snowbird at Sand Between My Toes Christa at Teetering on the Edge of the Empty Nest , Melora at A Little Slice of Life Ed at Caribbean Soul and Christene at ChrisCandJonJ – Our Vanilla Life – TAG, YOU’RE IT!

This last one is also from Gayle. It’s actually a SEVEN random facts meme. Since I’ve already done six of them, I’ll just add one more –

SEVEN. I hate putting on makeup, but once it is on, I’m all like, “Dang, woman – you look EXCELLENT” :)

And with that, I do believe I’ve caught up on every meme I owe! If I didn’t catch them all, please drop me a comment with a link and I shall mend my memeful ways and get right on it!

RED Stuff From Out And About Today

(a Ruby Tuesday post)

12082008488-Price-of-Gas-Ft-Myers-FL-12-08-2008I had to go to the doctor today to get something that will kill this evil sinus infection from hell. On the way back, I stopped to look at the price of gas – would you look at this? If it keeps falling like this, could we possibly hit double digits any time soon? The sign just happened to be printed red.

12072008475-Tampa-Bay-Bucs-logo-PublixI headed to my local Publix supermarket, to get my prescription from the doctor filled. In the vestibule where all the shopping carts are stored hangs this poster depicting the logo for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers football team. Football is definitely bigger in Florida than it was on Long Island; in fact, it may actually qualify as the state religion of Florida.

12072008484-Publix-Pharmacy-Decorated-for-ChristmasAh, there’s my target – the Publix Pharmacy. I’ve got to fill this here prescription for a Z-pak full of anti-biotic goodness. Doesn’t Publix look pretty? They go rather berserk with it all – there are wrapped “gifts” and cute penguins in Santa hats strewn on the shelves and garlands of paper candy canes arching over the ends of the aisles. Very festive!

12082008494-Box-and-card-from-AlaskaWhen I got home, I went to collect the mail from the mailbox and spied a package sitting at the front door. I could not imagine who it was from, but braved the perils of the wasps (yes, they are at it AGAIN, but that’s another story for another day) to go collect it. Much to my surprise, it was from Alaska! I’d forgotten that Gayle had asked me for my snail mail address – I provided it, and then promptly put it out of my mind. Oooo, gifty-treats! I wonder what it is?

12082008496-Card-From-AlaskaInside the card with the deranged chihuahua on the front is some of the prettiest handwriting I’ve ever seen. Here’s part of the note from Gayle – whatever is inside the box is directed at the “Sanibel Crawlers” – that’s me, Gary, Tootie and the Snowbirds. I reach in and start pulling out small objects wrapped in newspapers…

12082008501-Booty-From-Alaska-Bar-Crawling-AidsOh, too cool – we each get our very own shot glass – booty from Alaska, with mooses on them (yes I know that the plural of “moose” is “moose” but I like saying “mooses” – it’s kinda like “operculii”, ok?).

So, Crawlers – here’s what I’m envisioning. We all take our Alaskan shot glasses on the next crawl with us, and have the bartender make a pitcher of… something. Kamikazes? And we’ll drink to our blogger friend Gayle in Alaska. Sound like a plan?

Oh and I’m looking forward to reading the newspaper from Alaska, too! 😉

Osborne Lights, Disney’s Hollywood Studios

(a Manic Monday post)

There’s one in nearly every neighborhood. You know the one I’m talking about. The house that goes WAY overboard every year. So it was with the Osborne family of Arkansas. Their hobby of doing bigger and better Christmas lights each year caused lots of traffic, which displeased the neighbors enough to seek a legal remedy to the problem.

Somehow, Disney got word of this and decided to relocate the Osborne family’s lights to their then-called Disney-MGM Studios. The lights now live in the Streets of America area, and Disney actually starts putting them up in the early fall, since there is so much to hang.

Without further ado, I present some photos I took of the Osborne lights on December 8th 2006. Click any photo to see a larger version on Flickr (choose All Sizes, then Original)

Tigers of The Royal Forest of Anandapur, Disney’s Animal Kingdom

(a Camera Critters post)
click any photo to see a larger version in Flickr

IMG01416-DAK-tiger-trash-can-artLast week, I wrote about my Favorite Critters At Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and one of them was the tiger.  In that post, I explained that Disney has placed their tigers in a setting that is similar to the “temple of the tigers”, a preserve in India that had at one time been royal hunting grounds.

IMG01430-DAK-tiger-sign-wood-houseDisney places the tigers along the Maharajah Jungle Trek in the Asia section of Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and calls the forested section “The Royal Forest of Anandapur”.  I googled “Anandapur” and found two villages, one in the state of Crissa in India, and the other is in Bangladesh, from whence the Royal Bengal tiger comes.  Well they also hang out in Nepal, Bhutan, Pakistan and Myanmar (Burma), but a “Bengal” is someone from Bangladesh, so there you go.

The first image above is actually trash can art, and was captured just outside the Maharajah Jungle Trek entrance. The second image heralds your arrival in the Royal Forest of Anandapur, where the tigers frolic amongst the ruins of a royal palace that is crumbling with antiquity.

IMG_7079-DAK-one-tiger-fountainPlease excuse the “ghosts” on these photos; they were shot through glass, and I think it’s remarkable that they are as clear as they are, given how many little fingers leave their imprints on a daily basis :) This tiger guards a crumbling fountain; he doesn’t see what I see behind him…. maybe he’s got tiger “spidey sense” that allows him to know somehow, but I didn’t consider that at the time and I thought we, the tourists of Anandapur, were about to see some action…

IMG_7078-DAK-one-tiger-pool No, I have no idea why there appears to be a board in the water, but I’m glad you noticed because I was kind of wondering myself. A second tiger stealthily skirts the fountain pool, looking for all the world like s/he was stalking the first one. What will happen? Is there going to be a conflict, a great, fierce battle? The tourists of Anandapur hold their collective breath!

IMG_7082-DAK-two-tigers-fountainWhew! It looks like the second tiger is disinterested in conflict after all, passing by without a even a passing glance, never mind a roar or even a growl. The tourists of Anandapur, lungs bursting, release their collective breath.

Peace descends upon the Royal Forest of Anandapur. Happy ending – YAY! :)

Santa in the Sky! at the Tween Waters Inn, Captiva, Florida

As promised this past Ruby Tuesday, here’s the “Santa Series” from the Tween Waters Inn, Captiva Island, Southwest Florida. It was a gorgeous, blue-sky Thanksgiving Day, and I very much enjoyed seeing “Tweenies” all gussied up it its Christmas finery. Hope you enjoy!

Old Captiva House is the restaurant at the Inn. The Crow’s Nest is more of a bar/lounge atmosphere, and they sometimes have live music on the weekends.

Santa has climbed a palm tree in order to get a better view of the gorgeous Gulf of Mexico. Down low in the photo, between the palms, you can see a dot. That dot is a para-sailor. I think I need to try that!

Santa shields his eyes against the afternoon sun to gaze calmly down upon a small knot of concerned citizens who have gathered at the foot of the palm tree to beg him to “come down, Santa – come down!”. I can just tell from the look on his face, he’s got absolutely NO intention of coming down any time soon! Why would he? It’s a great view!

In this photo, if you click through to the bigger version on Flickr, you can see the infamous “Tweenie-Cam” between the two front hooves of the last reindeer on the left. It’s mounted on the chimney. Wanna see it from the other end? Click below and enjoy!

RED STUFF from the Tween Waters Inn, Captiva Island, Florida
(a Ruby Tuesday post)

I guess we are officially in the season where RED STUFF abounds.  Yes, it’s Christmas time, and the decorations are going up rapidly all over the place.  Here are some shots taken on Thanksgiving Day last week at the Tween Waters Inn on Captiva Island in Southwest Florida.

SNOWMEN er, PEOPLE
There were a couple of festive snowmen on the path from the parking lot to the restaurant.  Amazingly, they seem impervious to the Florida sunshine, and they do not melt! 😉

THE REASON FOR THE SEASON
There isn’t really any red in this, but I just had to include it.

I’m saving a series of Santas found at Tweenies for Skywatch Friday… stay tuned!
