Mickey Mouse Chillaxin’ In Paradise

Third week in a row, and once again I’m going for the “Monday Meme Trifecta” – Manic Monday, Mellow Yellow Monday and Blue Monday.
Here we have Mickey Mouse, that most beloved of all Disney characters, lounging around in a hammock, diggin’ the sunshine. He’s wearing blue swim shorts, and surrounded by soft yellows that were used to depict the sand. This is actually a beach towel that I found in a shop in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World last October.
The scene reminds me of an idea I’ve been waffling about for a few weeks. Before I lived in Florida, I used to take my “ahhhh!” vacation each year on Sanibel Island. I would do nothing all day but eat, sleep, read, and go looking for shells on the beach. The world of work and other worries was left behind.
But ever since I’ve moved here, although I spend lots of time on Sanibel, I don’t get to have my week of unplugging any more. So, I’ve been thinking of booking myself a vacation… on Sanibel Island! Yes, 30 minutes from my house. Is that weird? Is it silly? It would not be the same if I took a week off and drove out to the beach each day. There’s something about being on the island for a week – it’s an insular experience, similar to going when you enter the gates of the 42 square miles in Orlando that makes up Walt Disney World, and don’t leave until a week later. Also, there’s something very appealing about being able to roll out of bed, walk out the door and set foot on the beach, all in less than a minute.
So, what’s YOUR opinion – should I do it? Should I book myself into a condo or hotel on Sanibel Island for a week? Please leave a comment with your thoughts!

Oh yes, do it! It sounds great!
If family or relatives want to join you…I’d arrange it so that you were in the same condo/hotel complex for only a couple or three nights. Then you would have the other 4 or 5 days to be totally free to do as you want or don’t want.

Go for it!! There was a time before we got our A parking pass that I considered renting for a couple of days at Mitchell’s just to be able to be on West Gulf for shelling. How silly is that??

You know the old saying about the shoemaker’s children having no shoes. I think that when we live close to a vacation spot, it gets old fairly quickly. I never go to the beach either. Thanks for sharing. Happy Blue Monday.

I’d do it. We live near a lake that people from all over the country visit. I’ve been thinking of taking a vacation there myself. I have never visited Sanibel Island but I hear that it is absolutely gorgeous. Happy Blue Monday!

Definitely do it. It doesn’t really matter where you go, just get that unplugged time. Everybody needs it whenever or wherever it happens.

LOL, I do a “trifecta” wednesday post. I think you should take your vacation, soak up some sun, read some books. I really want you to do it so I can live vicariously through you. :-p

Doesn’t matter how close it is to your house, being there day and night is a whole different experience. Hope you go and have fun.
