Before he swam away, I was able to snap a few pictures of the yellow rat snake I encountered in the Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve, Fort Myers, Florida. January 15th 2011

    I usually don’t describe snakes as beautiful, but he/she truly is! Maybe it has something to do with the fact that it’s not slithering across my driveway…

    How cool! I’ve never been there — in fact, I’ve never been to ANY of the off-island wonders. One of these trips I need to do some exploring!

    @Tootie, it’s really a nice, easy walk – especially at this time of year. And the place was crawling with volunteers who are only too happy to show you stuff and loan their field glasses & etc.

    @Gail, I think my next adventure will be to go down to the Corkscrew Swamp near Naples and do the trails there.
