About
Welcome to My Mobile Adventures *~*~* v2.0!
I am a telecommuter who works in technology for a Fortune 20 Wall Street firm. I transplanted myself from from Long Island, New York to Southwest Florida in the spring of 2006. The company had been making a concerted effort to get the hell out of lower Manhattan, aka “Ground Zero” and the surrounding neighborhoods.
They were exiting a building on Wall Street, where I had my desk. They went around saying, “You, report to the Brooklyn offices. You over there, you go to Jersey City“ And when they got to me, they said “You can work from home”.
“Do you care where ‘home’ is?” I asked.
No, they didn’t care. So I loaded up the truck and I moved to … oh wait, wrong song! Well, you can read about the house hunting mission here, and then you can read about the house decorating mission here, and when you’re done with that, you can read about my first 6 months living in Florida here. If nothing else, I am exceedingly well documented.
You can see that I’ve been posting on the internet about My Adventures *~*~* for a while now. About a year ago, I got a new phone, one that could take pictures and email them. I’d read about mobile blogging, so the night before embarking upon a trip to Walt Disney World (for a geek conference), I set up a Blogger blog and My Mobile Adventures *~*~* was born. I immediately started mobile photo blogging. Yeah, skipped right over the normal blogging phase and went straight to the mopho. I was pretty much hooked on mophoblogging after that, and did it so much, I’ve amassed over 1,500 posts in one year.
Since I was posting so many photos, and since Blogger won’t let you do that forever without at some point wanting to charge you, and since there’s so much unused space on the server where My Adventures *~*~* lives, I decided to coerce my friend Annie hire a very talented (and patient!) web designer to help me migrate to a self-hosted Word Press solution. If you are reading this, that means we were successful!
So now, a year after I started mophoblogging, I’m about to leave for Walt Disney World again, to attend that same geek conference I attended last year. And this year, I have a self-hosted blog to capture it all.
Other fun facts about me -
- At one time, I had a life upon the wicked stage. I sang in commuity and regional theaters on Long Island doing fun musical theater stuff, and I sang in a few Long Island opera companies too. I’m a lyric mezzo soprano with a mean buzz through the bridge, best suited to the French repertoire – but I can get away with Azucena and Amneris in the right hall.
- I have an associates degree in performing arts, and a B.A. in psychology – and I don’t think I’m done with school yet.
- Love Disney. Love Sanibel Island and the rest of Southwest Florida. Love my sea shell collection. Love my FIVE nieces; my brothers are prolific but they only produce girls, of the highest quality, I might add!
- I quit smoking February 6th 2008 and rapidly gained 20 pounds. As of this writing, I’ve managed to lose 7 of those pounds by adjusting caloric intake and running. I hate it, but it’s working.
More as I think of it!
OK, this is long enough. Thanks for coming by and reading this far. Please feel free to make comments; I’d love to hear from you. Hope you enjoy reading here!

How fun-I loved reading all kinds of cool and snazzy facts about Tink! By the way, I think Miss Renee is in awe of the whole ‘Stage life’ thing…

Thanks Mare! I think Miss Renee needs a nice, local production of “Annie” to test the waters. I’ve never met her, but just judging by facial expressions, I think she would make a fine “Oh my goodness, oh my goodness” orphan for her debut upon the wicked stage!

Just found this little item. Hey there, I was in community theatre for 30 years-acting, directing, working backstage etc. I was in a couple of musicals but I’m not much of a singer so I directed instead (Godspell, Man of LaMancha, Camelot, etc).

Nice! I might have to think of migrating off of Blogger and doing the same – if I get prolific with my blogging! Ha!

Congrats Tink on the new site! I really enjoy reading about your adventures in paradise – especially the fun shell hunting excursions! Now I know why there are footsteps on the beach already when I set out @ 5am! lol

Hi there JoJo – not sure if I’ve ever “met” you before, but welcome to my new blog
I hope as we enter the winter months when the northwest winds start to blow, I start getting more and more of those “booty calls” in the middle of the night to go pick up treasure on the beach. Can’t wait!

I like the new site. Much easier to read. What a life you’ve led. It sounds so important and glamorous. I’ve changed a lot of diapers. I suppose that counts, too! Maybe someday I’ll travel you way again and you can show me the secret shelling spots. Three of my kids are going with my ex-husband to catch a cruise out of Florida in Feb. Wish it was me instead! I love all the photos…you seem to be doing more lately and that is nice. I’ve been dodging blogging as I have so many projects around the house I need to finish. I’ll get back on the band-wagon soon. Thanks for telling us WHO Tink IS. Looking forward to learning more!

That is so cool! Kudos to you!
I am a Florida gal. Love it here and don’t really consider living anywhere else. Why would I leave a place where I can run almost all year long and wear flip-flops almost every day?
Sanibel/Capitva is a gorgeous place. I constantly daydream about seashell hunting there again. *sigh*

Hi Tink, I am glad to read “About You”. You are one of the luckiest I have “met” so far. I was just wondering why you have lots of posts with photos, ah… now I know.

This was a fun read. I have been wondering what I will do when I run out of photospace. I totally love taking pictures too.

You are too cool. I love your work. I found your site because I visit Sanibeltoot’s every evening. My kids just laugh at me and swear you are living my life. I love Sanibel and Disney. You and Toot have made many of my days in Texas when I read about you and all you are up to. You both need some sort of your own TV show. You got it going on. Make my day and wanted to tell you. I am waiting for school to be out and am Florida bound. Thank-you Sanibelshll

Hello,
I have been visiting your website for quite some time now, and really appreciate your web content being as good as it is.
I recently completed an action adventure novel titled “Hidden Mickey” that is about Walt and Disneyland. The book in being published and will be available soon, and since your audience caters to the Disney enthusiast I am sure they will be very interested in this novel.
One of our readers had this to say about the book “Hidden Mickey takes readers on a wild ride; consider it Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride on steroids”.
My co-author and I would very much appreciate it if you could link to our website.
I have provided the code for you to do this, as well as our banner below.
Thank You so much,
Nancy Rodrigue, co-author

Now I’m jealous! I’m on the border of Long Island myself (Queens) and getting pretty tired of it. My Wall-Street-tech hubby hasn’t yet crossed into the zone of realizing there is life outside of NY though!

Hello, I found your site though Google as it is related to my own travel site. I wanted to ask if you would be interested in a link exchange as I have some high ranking travel blogs many with a PageRank of 3 or more.
I have a list of my sites here: http://www.migranchile.com/mysites.html
I have been swapping links for while now and have found it very beneficial to search engine rankings for everyone. If you are interested just mail me back and I can show you my sites and hopefully give you some links asap.
Thanks for your time.
