Quirky Queen Sure Is Mean

030720102668-WDW-EPCOT-Red-QueenJohnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter have worked together on some strange films – Sweeney Todd, The Corpse Bride and recently, Disney’s update to Robert Louis Stevenson’s Alice in Wonderland. It’s not surprising that they’ve frequently worked together. Just as Johnny Depp has been making his career out of playing idiosyncratic characters, Helena Bonham Carter seems to be making a career out of playing mean girls. Her ongoing turn as Bellatrix LeStrange in the Harry Potter series seems destined to cement her image in our minds as a wild-eyed (not to mention the hair!) hellion bent on evil and destruction.

030720102670-WDW-EPCOT-Alice-toteI’m looking forward to seeing her reprise the role when Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 hits the theaters next week. Here she is pictured as the Red Queen on a few pieces of merchandise found at MouseGear in Walt Disney World’s EPCOT theme park. I like the trick of the red heart superimposed over her lips. The heart makes it appear as though she is pursing, but if you look closely at the line of her lips, they are in repose and not pursed at all. Neat trick!

My Future – from Spaceship Earth! [VIDEO]

At the end of the Spaceship Earth ride in Walt Disney World’s EPCOT theme park, you get to choose a bunch of options on the touch screen of your vehicle. After that a little movie plays based upon the options you picked. Then, when you disembark, you have the opportunity to email the video to anyone you want, including yourself.

I used this technology as a fun little “fortune teller” about my future employment, just to amuse myself. This is what came out.

No, I have no idea who the surfer dude is!

Just poking around, I found some video of Spaceship Earth while the fountain show was in progress – watery goodness, coming your way! SUBSCRIBERS: here comes another video!

Watching Illuminations from the gazebo in Mexico is a cluster #epcot

People shoving themselves and their kids between the tables at the rails. People seated beyond the rails who were apparently expecting to remain seated while watching are pissed off. And don’t tell me your kid got to be five and you didn’t know she screams and cries and covers her ears. People are heartless.

Nanaimo Bar at Epcot Food and Wine Festival gets the listing thumb

We’re back at the banana daiquiri memorial trash can, sampling the thing that Mari Mari Quite Contrary told me to taste. It gets the listing thumb because I’m sacrificing myself to the cholesterol gods (the custard layer) for relatively little sweetness in return. It’s good, just expected it to be sweeter. Upside – I can hear Off Kilter loud and clear :)

@RottenMom Spanakopita and maybe a glass of Atlantis white…

shout out to fellow blogger Denise, who told me to taste Greek food. also to Michele with "*1L", who was there the night we ate spanakopita and my banana daiquiri committed suicide (it’s on this blog somewhere – search for it!)

Too bad they’re not giving away the bottles with the beer! #epcot

I would have ordered the Fischer Amber just for the the bottle – it’s just like a Grolsch bottle I have in my possession that was given to me over 30 years ago by someone I was fond of. ah memories! Onward – speaking of nostalgia, gonna try and see Captain Eo.

@briswann Told Me What To Taste! #disney #wdw

@briswann said to have the frozen cherri Bacardi concoction at the Puerto Rico kiosk here at the EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival. I could drink these all day! also liked the sandwich – it saved me from becoming completely sloshed at the tequila tasting!

One more sleep! :) Above is a link to the menu at the 2010 EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival.  I’ve often said that putting a lengthy menu in front of me is a bad move – I want to taste a little bit of everything, but since stomachs have limited capacity, I end up having a hard time deciding. I am scheduled to visit Orlando at the end of the month. I’ll be going to Universal for sure to see Harry Potter with some old friends from New York. Plan to stop by the EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival as well. Now that Disney has launched a new advertising campaign, I suppose these “Celebrate Today” banners will be gone. I wonder what will be in their place? Stay tuned!

Vacation Shopping For Inspiration

There are many benefits to shopping, especially while on vacation. In addition to flooding the brain with pleasurable endorphins (like chocolate), shopping can deliver some important inspirational messages. Next time you are in Walt Disney World, why not shop for inspiration? There are a variety of uplifting messages to be had in the T-shirt section of MouseGear alone!

Vacation Shopping Teaches Important Lessons

030720102666-WDW-EPCOT-why-grow-up-tshirt

Walt Disney was a smart dude. He questioned the conventional. There is proof of this at MouseGear, a shop in Walt Disney World’s EPCOT. Just go through a rack of t-shirts there and you will probably find this one. Here, on this shirt, Walt asks perhaps the most important question he ever came up with – “WHY do we have to grow up?” Why, indeed? I’ve often wrestled with that one myself!

Well, the truth is, my friends – and I suspect Walt knew this – we do NOT, in fact, have to grow up. Evah! Wanna know how I know? I found evidence! Yes, irrefutable evidence, right in the same store. Check it out –

030720102672-WDW-EPCOT-Mickey-Mouse-ears

Now, I ask you – if growing up was an absolute requirement, would they make Mouse ears in adult sizes? I think not! See?

I therefore refuse to grow up.

Who’s with me?

All kinds of Disney stuff happening in my Facebook News Feed lately. Disney news is popping up in the oddest places – check it out!

Disney aiming to establish technology standards for web-connected toys

So… how do you feel about kids having internet access through their toys? Even more controversial – how do you feel about the internet having access to your child through their toys? Do you feel better about it, knowing that Disney is going to have a hand in developing the standards that would govern such technology being included in the playthings used by children? I think the biggest issue with this is that there don’t seem to be laws that would enforce the adoption of such standards. Therefore, adoption of the standards, in whole or in part, would be entirely voluntary, which in my mind renders the standards sort of useless… Ultimately, I think it’s up to parents to decided if they want their kids ordinary playthings to increase their “always connected” -ness or not.

IMG_5374-WDW-DAK-RafikiI followed a link in my FB News Feed to Wired.com and found the following articles totally by accident –

Disney World As Edutainment

A dad waxes geekish on the educational opportunities that abound at all four Disney World parks in Orlando. He calls out the World Showcase and the salt water aquarium in EPCOT, Indiana Jones in Hollywood Studios, Conservation Station in the Animal Kingdom and The Hall of Presidents and Carousel of Progress in the Magic Kingdom.

Review: Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep

Now that his youngest kid is 5 years old, this dad has a little time to play video games again – and what better than a family-friendly Disney game? I’ve never played this game, but he seems REALLY happy with it – not only because it’s a good game but because he’s getting back to something he liked to do before the kids AND he can share it with his kids. Full of WIN :)

A Geek Dad’s Disney World Observations

Final offering from Wired – yet another “GeekDad”, a Canadian, shares his humorous observations about the Disney World experience after spending 14 nights at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort (love me some POR!). I’m shocked to discover how much he says Disney wanted to charge him for a six-pack of Corona – surely he’s gotta be speaking in Canadian dollars, eh?

A diverting destination at Innoventions West

© Copyright 2010 Tink *~*~*
http://MyMobileAdventures.com

030720102600-WDW-EPCOT-Character-Spto:) I love this sign because it is so colorful and because it has a “hidden” Mickey. The EPCOT Character spot is located just across the breezeway from Innoventions West in Walt Disney World’s EPCOT theme park. You’ll be able to find all the most beloved classic Disney characters there – Mickey and Minnie, Pluto, Goofy and Chip ‘n’ Dale are all waiting to meet you! So, when you get to EPCOT, hang a right when you get to the fountain that dances to fabulous music and you’re there. Everybody neat and pretty? Don’t forget your autograph book!

Masterful topiaries at the International Flower & Garden Festival

© Copyright 2010 Tink *~*~*
http://MyMobileAdventures.com

IMG_3457-WDW-EPCOT-butterfly-house:) Even if you’ve only been reading My Mobile Adventures *~*~* for a short time, you know that I’m not a fan of the “Disney fairies”, Tinker Bell’s alleged little friends from her alleged home of Pixie Hollow [see 5 Ways Disney has defiled Tinkerbell]. Still, I like to think that my prejudices still leave room for giving credit where credit is due. The Pixie Hollow display outside the butterfly house at EPCOT this past spring was a study in how to make great topiaries. Even without facial expressions, the artists who create these masterpieces manage to convey personality and emotion in every piece they created in this garden. I’m going to shut up now and just let you look. Brava, bravo, bravi Disney horticulture team!
