Doo, doo, doo, lookin’ out my back door at the SKY!

January 17th, 2009. Southwest Florida
Ev’ning colors streak
the sky and the pond reflects
it all perfectly.
I feel really terrible for some of my friends, who are enduring yet another storm with disgusting, vile forms of precipitation piling up outside. Each time I publish a photo like this, I worry that they think I am rubbing their noses in the fact that winter is not Florida’s time for disgusting, vile precipitation; we wait for summer hurricane season for that! So, a couple of weeks ago when many of them were down here visiting Sanibel Island, I presented them with their very own Executive Mini Sandbox, Beach Break And so, to Anne in New England and Kaki in the Midwest, and to Kim and Derice in the Mid-Atlantic states, I hope you will remember to break out the sandbox, bury some miniatures shells in the sand, and take comfort in a little pseudo-shelling and dreaming.

What fabulous color! I think people in the colder climates love a look at something warmer.
What amazing colors in the sky!
Wonderful reflections.
Very, very pretty, Tink.
A PERFECT sunset – very, very pretty! Hmm… nice weather, huh? Could you send a little my way? We don’t have the snow and ice, but it sure is C-O-L-D!
Nice Floridian sky.
Fantastic colors and reflection! Gorgeous!
How very, very beautiful. The colours are stunning.
Beautiful color on this pictures, thanks for sharing!
Awesome!
What a wonderful view! Is the lake for swimming? My kids would be out in it under the pink sky…wouldn’t that be fun?!
You have the most beautiful sunsets over there.
Nope, the lake is NOT for swimming. There are large signs everywhere that say NO SWIMMING.
The lake is really a retention pond. Here in Florida, water must be managed. Sometimes we have way too much, and it needs a place to go. Managed communities are built around these retention ponds. Unmanaged neighborhoods get drainage from the cities and counties in the form of long-ass canal systems. It’s all terribly complicated. But in the managed communities, they will typically add a fountain for aeration. And the fishes and turtles come, and that’s when the fun REALLY starts (we have NO FISHING signs, too).
WOW!!! This is amazing. I love the reflection!!! The colors are amazing. Beautifully blended by our masterful Artist! Wow! Thank you!
Whoa! Now that is very cool. Makes me want to pull up a chair and sit awhile…
I’m not ready to recreate the the war between the North and South over a warm winter tropical sky. It looks nice, and after a day of ice yesterday, I can warm up bu just looking at your picture.
As for the worst weather season, it depends. I once spoke with people from Phoenix and their opinion of their summer was much like our winter – so often staying inside like us. Once I visited the Valley of the SUn in the summer, all the runners were doing so at 5:00 in the morning – when it was 85°. A mattter of perspective! I like yours…
Wow, that’s fantastic! Color, texture, reflection — nice catch!
Wow that is so beautiful. Looks like a beautiful evening to be enjoying.
The reflection in the water is beautiful! I’m not jealous of your good weather (much) 🙂
That is a sky of unrivaled beauty.
Wow! I cannot believe how glorious these photos are! I’m going from blog to blog from “Crazy Working Mom,” and everyone is outdoing each other! The sky is certainly a wonderful canvas…
~~~Blessings~~~
I’m enjoying the view of this pretty and dramatic sky through your picture 🙂 Having fun with ur new camera?
The past 2 weeks has been really hectic. It’s the Lunar New Year!!??
Very pretty, Tink. Mrs. Jim’s elderly cousin, Bessie, showed me her secret for getting the reds nice and red in my sky pictures. I used her secret last week.
If you had waited until this week Amazon.com has a sale on them. Save a whole penny. They add up, but then nothing is too good for the snow birds.
Happy Skywatching! I’m up, finally :-).
..
That is a truly BE-utiful photo!
Awesome photo and great sky shot!
Wow, Tink, that is just an incredible sight! Wonderful shot! Makes me feel like singing too!!
Good pic and color. have nice SWF weekend
Absolutely amazing sky. Wow.
I love this shot. I didn’t know about the retention systems you mentioned in the earlier comment. What I love most about this shot is the reflection of the colors from that amazing sky into the water. This is always a breath taking effect. Very nicely captured (as always), Tink.
Thanks so much for playing along in our “little” Sky meme. 🙂
those colors are amazing! I love taking photos of the sky, too. 🙂
This is a gorgeous photo. The sunset colors are fantastic and so is the reflection in the retention pond. Interesting info on the water management in Florida.
We live on a hilltop so all the water runs down. 😉
thanks for visiting me
Thanks for visiting my blog & saying such nice things about my Texas cousins. You sure take pretty pictures:)
Glorious sky…even when that sky might be visible from here the fortress of trees around me blocks the view. Beautiful!
Absolutely gorgeous! Sky pictures and nature pictures in general are my favorites.
Thanks for stopping by my blog!
Awesome Tink!
Beautiful colors and reflection!
Your photo is beautiful. I love how the colors of the sky are reflected in the water.
Good grief Tink, that is gorgeous. It doesn’t even make me think of alligators. I wish I could see something that pretty (doo, doo, doo) lookin’ out MY back door!
