Disney Featured on This American Life

IMG00501-WDW-gates-on-the-roadThis week’s episode of the popular NPR (National Public Radio) show This American Life is rife with references to Disney.

Promised Land | This American Life

PROLOGUE
Host Ira Glass expounds upon the phenomenon of the “I wish” song, an essential component of Disney musicals. The “I wish” song tells us who the character is and what s/he wants, and frequently also sets up the conflict that is somehow resolved during the “happily ever after” ending of the story. Examples cited are “I’m Wishing” from Snow White, “Part Of Your World” from The Little Mermaid and songs from a few other non-Disney stories such as “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” from The Wizard of Oz.

ACT ONE. ACROSS THE STREET FROM HEAVEN
Starlee Kine, one of my favorite contributors to This American Life, tells the sad tale of parental paranoia that leads to being really close to Disneyland but never actually making it inside the “pearly gates”. Funny stuff! ºoº .•:*¨¨*:•. ºoº
