The words fun fact and fire in the same sentence scare me.
ROFL! Burns in the wild are natural, mostly due to lightning strikes. And they are necessary in order to clear debris, rejuvenate the soil, and make way for new life. There are some pines that won’t open their seed shells without the heat of a fire. In the case of the sanctuary, mostly they do controlled burns on a rotating basis to ensure the continued health of the eco-system.
