The Dolphin Has A Halo, Part II
taken from EPCOT
Walt Disney World, Orlando, Florida
Here’s a closer view of yesterday’s shot. Left to right: “Morocco”, The Swan hotel, “France” (Eiffel Tower model), and The Dolphin hotel.

Even though the pretty tree branch “frame” is gone, we can now see the buildings in starker contrast against the sunset colors of the sky. What’s interesting to note is that The Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin resorts are actually a lot further away than the other buildings, but because everything is in silhouette, you lose a dimension and therefore the sense of distance between the photographer and the buildings – and even the sense of distance between the buildings themselves. In fact, in this photo The Dolphin actually looks closer than France, but the reverse is true. It’s just that The Dolphin is a much bigger structure than the tower, so even though it is further away, it looks closer!

The Dolphin Has A Halo
taken from EPCOT
Walt Disney World, Orlando, Florida
I liked the way I was able to quasi-frame this shot with the trees. Took a bunch standing in this spot; tomorrow I’ll share a closer view without the frame.

Toured the resort

We went for a walk around the resort, stopping in at Picabu at the Dolphin to get some supplies for the room (milk, water, iced tea and bananas). I just can’t resist taking a photo of shells wherever I see them.

Checked in at the Swan

Amazingly, we were able to check in right away. There was a small housekeeping cart in our room, but we just wheeled it into the hallway and proceeded on in. Here’s our view from the balcony – pretty much exactly opposite the Dolphin.

Spamity spam, spamity spam

I had conference spam when I awoke, and conference spam when I returned from my little jaunt to Downtown Disney. I sent photos to the blog, but they did not post, so I shall attach them herewith as evidence of the existence of the conference spam fairy.

Fairly ordinary conference day – inspirational and mind-expanding, this particular conference always raises more questions than it answers. This is a goodly thing, however, for were it not for questions, solutions would not be born.

At lunch, I picked a table and struck up conversations, and two guys from my firm sat down at the same table. Out of the many thousands here at this conference, there are less than a dozen of us from my firm in attendance this year, so what were the odds. I confess I had not really heard of either of them, but one of them knew me; how that happens, I really don’t know. Perhaps someone took my name in vain, once upon a time.

And now for some commentary on the pics from DTD. Chris, the dragon is made entirely of Legos. There are other Lego beings down there too, both life-size and bigger-than-life. As to this particular dragon’s identity, I fear it cannot be the Tink-Ness Monster, for that being lives in the lake behind my house, and it would be a very trying journey indeed. Given that it takes three hours and change by car, it would take an impossibly long time by slither.

The fish and chips got a half-mast “Meh!” because they were a bit too on the greasy side for my liking. I ended up scooping the fish out of the crusty part. The iced tea there is very good – black currant, said the label on the dispenser. It had the faintest trace of berry flavoring to it, and it came in both sweet and unsweet. The sweet was too sweet, so I did a half and half mixture (I have learned to do this since moving to the South; when they say sweet down here, they MEAN sweet!)

I didn’t buy too much down there, just a T-shirt and a box of Mickey fudge. For once, I’m not falling in love with every piece of merchandise I see. I wonder, could it be that I am all Mickeyed out? Jeeze, I hope not.

OK, here comes the spam…..

dang, why does it always insert them BEFORE I write? I had the cursor down here, I swear!

Well, alrighty then!

I have figured out why the pics I sent on the drive over here didn’t show up. It has to do with my cell carrier having a different protocol for text and pics. So I read the advice in the Help files here (good, help by the way – big thumbs up, thanks!), and now we should be good. I guess I’ll delete all that junk and resend, maybe. But it was really “on the road” stuff, to let mah peeps know where I was on the journey, and now the moment has passed…

See previous pic (which is where I finally figured out what was wrong) – could it be that The Upgrade Fairy strikes again? I will have to check with The Upgrade Fairy’s maternal unit to be sure. But right now, I need to eat something, and then I’m going to take my ass into Epcot! Hmm, maybe I will take my ass into Epcot and THEN eat something!
